These standards are intended for use in the determination of water in oil. All values are nominal, and are certified by gravimetric preparation. The crackle test is a visual test performed by placing a small drop of oil onto a hot plate (usually around 300ºF). The amount of water present in oil samples is estimated by comparison to these standards.
